Sioux Dawn (The Fetterman Massacre, 1866)
Author: Terry C Johnston
ISBN#: 0-312-92732-0
Review by: Colonel Poncho

For me no one captures the true spirit of the Old West better than the late,
great Terry C. Johnston. His attention to detail is truly astounding and he
is able to conjure up breath taking vistas and authentic sweeping dioramas
and intermingle them with believable characters with an enviable ease.
Indeed, most of the characters in his 'Plainsman' series are real - they
really did exist.

Johnson has managed to intermingle the real historical facts with fiction in a seamless manner and never more so than in this book. It is the first in a long line of books all about the continuing adventures of the Irish ex army sergeant, Seamus Donegan. It is set just after the Civil War and tells the story of an adventure filled trip west and north by Donegan and a whole cats of Old West figures including Captain William J. Fetterman, Colonel Henry B. Carrington and Red Cloud.

A real page turner that will leave you gasping for more by the end.
